A popular luxury jewellery shop in Taunton will relocate for the first time in decades. A new Michael Spiers store will open at 1 High Street in the town centre as a planning applications are approved.

The High Street retail unit was most recently home to Clarks shoe shop. Michael Spiers is relocating to the prominent site from its current base in North Street, where it has been based for almost 40 years.

Michael Spiers showcases and sells high-end watches and jewellery, specialising in Rolex watches. The new store will include a Rolex lounge complete with a watch technician.

Plans for new Michael Spiers shop at High Street, Taunton

Two planning applications were submitted on behalf of Michael Spiers seeking permission for the display of new signage, the installation of a new shop front and column claddings and various other internal alterations. The two applications have now both been approved by Somerset Council.

Planning documents state: “Once completed, the shop will attract a high level of quality customers who will travel into the area. The new image of the shop would enhance the high street corner location of the Orchard Centre.

“The works will include the complete reconfiguration of the basement and ground floor spaces providing general and VIP sales areas complete with a guest lounge and viewable watch makers repair shop. There will be high quality toilet and wash facilities in addition to staff comfort areas and office space. The works will require a complete new M&E installation with new heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

“The external facade will receive a new secure hardwood shop front with large glass panes complimented by traditional moulded pilasters. There will be illuminated signage to both elevations and large awnings to complete the new luxurious brand image.”
